On June 23rd, we interviewed Dr. Paul Offit, MD, who is the Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases and the Director of the Vaccine Education Center at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He is also the Maurice R. Hilleman Professor of Vaccinology, and a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Dr. Offit is the co-inventor of the Rotavirus vaccine, RotaTeq, and the author of several books related to Vaccines and Infectious Diseases, with his latest book 'Autism's False Prophets: Bad Science, Risky Medicine, and the Search for a Cure', set to hit the shelves this fall. Dr. Offit is recognized internationally as one of the top experts in Vaccinology, and takes a firm stance on the safety and effectiveness of vaccines. He feels strongly that using thimerosal in vaccines does not have the potential to cause harm, and the only thing that was accomplished by removing some of the mercury from vaccines was wasting millions of dollars that could have been put to better use. He also wants the public to understand that thimerosal, and vaccines as a whole, do not play a role in the Autism Epidemic. Attached are some of the highlights of what he had to say.
